New dietary recommendations for adults with psoriasis suggest that a 90-day gluten-free trial period may be helpful for some people with psoriasis. Celiac disease is two times more prevalent in those who have psoriasis than in those who don’t. Those with positive blood results for celiac disease have shown significant improvement in their psoriasis symptoms and their skin biopsy findings after going gluten-free for three months.
The recommendations by the medical board of the National Psoriasis Foundation were published in JAMA Dermatology. They do not suggest celiac screening for all psoriasis patients, just those with GI symptoms or first-degree relatives with celiac disease.
