Denise Jardine, author of 2001’s Recipes for Dairy-Free Living, has a new cookbook, The Dairy-Free & Gluten-Free Kitchen (Ten Speed Press). With each of the 150 mouthwatering recipes, there’s an easy-to-use color code that spotlights upfront exactly how each dish is allergy friendly. For example, Grilled Polenta with Vegetable Ragout is free of egg, soy, nuts, sugar, oil and, of course, gluten and dairy. It’s notable that Jardine manages to reduce fats and refined sugars without sabotaging palate pleasing taste. Trained as a nutrition educator, she packs in important information about diet-related health issues and resources but her natural, whole-foods approach to cooking is the reason you'll keep this book in your kitchen.
