Giving Thanks

There are many reasons that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Yes, there’s the delicious food (gluten free, of course!). But I also love the sentiment. It’s amazing that Americans have established a national holiday to commemorate and cultivate gratitude.

I know it isn’t always easy feeling grateful when you’re living on a special diet. There’s the inconvenience, the frustration, the worry about cross contamination, the anxiety of a reaction or anaphylaxis. And let’s be honest: feelings of deprivation can culminate at Thanksgiving--the holiday that’s supposed to represent plenty, the day when food is totally front and center.

It’s my sincere hope that Living Without accompanies and assists you throughout this special week as you work in your kitchen, as you serve your guests, as you celebrate together with family and friends. It’s our committed goal to help make this Thanksgiving your easiest, tastiest and safest ever.

The Living Without team is grateful for our many blessings—the researchers who are seeking treatments and cure for celiac disease and food allergies, the growing availability of commercial products for those on special diets, the heightened public awareness of food allergies and sensitivities. But frankly, our biggest blessing is you.

We’re very, very thankful for our readers, for your thoughtful comments, for sharing your stories, your recipes and your special-diet experiences with us, for making this a true community of people helping people.

The good news is that it’s getting easier and tastier to live well, living without. And we’re thankful for that.

Wishing you all a safe and delicious gluten-free, allergy-friendly Thanksgiving!
