We Have a New Name!

Welcome to Gluten Free & More. After almost 16 years of being Living Without, this issue of the magazine introduces our new name and a spruced-up look.

When Living Without was first published in 1998, the information available to those with celiac disease and food allergies was extremely limited. There were so few food manufacturers serving our special-diet community that you could, quite literally, count them on one hand. Our motto, “living well, living without,” reflected our goal—the healthy and happy endgame of the special-diet lifestyle. That meant living without uncomfortable (sometimes dangerous) symptoms or reactions. Living without deprivation, without limited choices, without restricted menus.

Our new name, Gluten Free & More, says all of this positively.

And in this issue, there’s a whole lot to be positive about. These pages are packed with amazing food articles that you are going to love. With the emphasis on top-notch flavor, nutritional density and quick and easy preparation, these recipes will have your mouth watering.

If you’re new to the gluten-free diet, don’t miss our how-to articles, where we address the top 10 GF myths, help you grocery shop and answer your baking questions. There are also two quick-start guides (gluten-free and dairy/casein-free) in the back; they’re handy “cheat sheets” for those just starting out.

Newbies and old-timers alike should turn to our coverage of the latest research into the link between gluten and the symptoms of schizophrenia. Then check out “Heritage Wheat” and “Research Roundup.” Some of this info may impact your life.

In the midst of change, I want to emphasize that our mission stays
the same—to be your primary and indispensible source of information
on all things related to living happily, safely and deliciously with allergies
and food sensitivities. We are committed to that—and to you. And that
won’t change.

P.S. Don’t miss the party! Celebrate living well with food allergies and sensitivities at our Gluten-Free Food Allergy Fests in San Diego (May 3 & 4), Indianapolis (August 23-24) and Portland, Oregon (September 6-7). We hope to see you there.
