We Need a Gluten-Free Labeling Standard

If you haven't already done so, take a moment and sign the petition for gluten-free labeling. The deadline is November 1st.

Almost a decade ago, the American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA) initiated the fight for gluten-free labeling on behalf of those with celiac disease and gluten intolerance.  Over the past few weeks, there’s been a final effort—hopefully—to remind federal decision-makers that individuals with celiac disease and gluten intolerance are waiting for the FDA to complete action on the pending rules. Living Without joins the American Celiac Disease Alliance and others in the gluten-free community to urge you to sign the special petition available on the White House website.

In 2004, Congress passed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA), making life significantly easier for individuals with food allergies to manage their potentially life-threatening health condition. Today, only one provision of FALCPA remains to be implemented--setting a standard for gluten-free food labeling rules. 

To help educate decision-makers about the need for this standard, the celiac and gluten-free community is taking advantage of a new forum-- A ‘We the People’ petition--to make sure its voice is heard loud and clear. 

This petition was launched earlier this month, urging government officials to complete the gluten-free food labeling rules. Located on the White House website, it has already garnered over 20,000 signatures. Officials are required to respond if 25,000 signatures are gathered by Thursday, November 1st.  If you have not already done so, I urge you to take a moment to read and sign the petition.

We need a clear gluten-free labeling standard. Please join us in this important effort. By adding your name to this petition, you reinforce the strength of our unified voice. Officials need to understand that gluten-free labeling is critically important to thousands of Americans.
